I saw this picture and at first, it wasn't even funny ... as I thought about it, it became amusing, but unfortunately very aptly portrays a large section of our population. Ever see the movie "Idiocracy?" I highly recommend it!
There is a theory right now that we, as a world population, are truly becoming less intelligent. This theory was developed by Dr. Richard Lynn. He has written a book on the topic: "Dysgenics: Genetic Deterioration in Modern Populations." Basically, the theory is premised on well documented data showing the most intelligent people in modern societies are having the least children, whereas the least intelligent people have the most. Thus, we are slowly pruning away the most intelligent genes and increasing the genetic pool of the least intelligent. There are a lot of discussions on this (the "big" one is it's not the least intelligent, but the least educated ... however, that argument doesn't hold water because it has been shown over and over and over, world-wide, that the least intelligent also attain the lowest educational levels).
At any rate, I'm really glad to work with some very, very bright young people. On that note, if you read this and understood it the first time through, please have lots of kids! I know I haven't had enough ... but my awesome neighbor and friend "Truly Blessed" has FIVE! Now that's making a serious dent in this issue!

You amaze me. With everything going on in your life right now, you still come up with some of the most fascinating things I would never think or know about if I didn't read your blog. You are a truly intelligent person who should have had more children. Haven't had a chance to call but know your in my thoughts and prayers. If you need anything don't hesitate to ask.
Ha! Until the last sentence, I thought you were calling me stupid, (I mean less intelligent.) So glad you added that little addendum!
You know, I get so discouraged when I hear people speak: We been there... Where you been? Where you at? I done that before too... I just cannot stand hearing that type of abuse on the English language come out of the mouths of supposedly educated people in our community (I'm telling you I haven't been to a county fair in years -- I'm hearing these comments in our grocery stores and at school!) "Morans", every one of them!
Your posts usually make me smile. Sometimes they're just so far over my head and my eyes glaze over...
I thought Idiocracy was a cute movie, and it definitely hits on a point I've thought about before.
I'm probably the type of person who should have a bunch of kids, but I definitely won't. It's too difficult to advance a career being pregnant all the time. I think there is still significant discrimination against mothers because maternity leave is expensive and annoying for employers. Also, it's just way way way too expensive to have more than 2 or so kids (unless you make a lot of money, which is never guaranteed).
All in all, I'm in full agreement that this country is just deteriorating in terms of the intellectual ability and curiosity of its citizens. I don't understand why it's so popular to embrace being unexceptional and average. What's wrong with being an elite intellectual? Those people are hard working individuals who have dedicated their energies to becoming experts in a particular subject matter. I thought that embodied the spirit of what we were supposed to strive for.
